Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (2025)

Parents in your family group can use Family Link to manage account settings in your child's Google Account.

Check your child’s Google Account settings

As a parent manager on Family Link, you can control various aspects of your child’s online experience.

Manage your child’s Google Play activity with Family Link

Important: Purchases made through Google Play's billing system can only use the purchase approval settings of Family Link.

As a parent manager, you can:

Manage your child’s searches & location settings

Important: As per your child’s device, Family Link’s parental supervision services can vary.

As a parent manager, you can:

Edit your child’s Google Activity settings

Your child’s activity is saved to their Google Account. Learn how to control what activity gets saved to your account.

If you stop Google from saving your child’s activity, some Family Link features and other Google services will stop working.

Choose your child's Google Activity settings

To find your child’s account settings, tap the button below:

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (1).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (2) Account settings​ Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (3) Privacy settings.
  4. Tap Account data settings.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Choose whether your child can change their Google Activity settings

You and your child can change your Google activity settings. You can also change your settings so only parents can manage activity controls.

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (4).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (5) Account settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (6) Privacy settings.
  4. Tap Account data settings.
  5. From "Activity controls," you can allow your child to change these settings.

Tips:

  • Whether or not your child can control their own account settings doesn't change the settings themselves. It’s recommended for parents to make sure the settings are correct after they change this control.
  • You can also manage these settings from g.co/YourFamily.

Find or delete your child's saved activity

Important: If you added supervision to your child’s previously existing Google Account, you’ll need their help to do this.

  1. On your child's device, visit the My Activity page.
  2. Search for the app you want to find activity for.
    • To find your child’s activity, tap Details.
    • To remove your child’s activity, tap Delete Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (7).

Important: These options are only available if your child is under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and hasn'tchosen to manage their own account.

Change your child's name, birthday, or gender

To find your child’s account settings, tap the button below:

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (8).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (9) Account settings.
  4. To change your child’s information:
    • Tap Name
    • Tap Birthday
    • Tap Gender
  5. Based on the updated information, tap Done or Ok.

Tips:

  • Whether or not your child can control their own account settings doesn't change the settings themselves. It’s recommended for parents to make sure the settings are correct after they change this control.
  • You can also manage these settings from g.co/YourFamily.

Change your child's photo

Important: This option isn't available if you added supervision after your child’s Google Account was created.

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (10).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (11) Account Settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (12) Change photo.
  4. To change your child’s photo, you can select:
    • Take photo
    • Choose photo

Tip: To remove your child’s photo, tap Remove.

Reset your child's password

To find your child’s account settings, tap the button below:

If you change your child’s password, they get signed out from their devices. Any supervision settings you turned on won't work until your child signs in again.

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (13).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (14) Account settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (15) Change password.
  4. Sign in with your Google Account information.
  5. Enter a new password.
  6. Tap Change.
  7. If your child has 2-Step Verification turned on, to confirm the pop-up notification, tap Got it.

Tips:

  • You can also manage these settings from g.co/YourFamily.

2-StepVerification for your child's account

  • If your child has 2-Step Verification turned on for their account and you change their password, 2-Step Verification gets turned off.
  • After 2-Step Verification is turned off, a notification email is sent to both you and your child.
  • Your child can turn on 2-Step Verification again once they sign in to their account. Learn more about 2-step verification.
