The Westminster Law Library has a wide variety of resources and services available to assist you with your law school career and beyond. Please review this page for more information on the basic library services and policies.

Services

  • Accessing the Library

    Students are welcome into the Law Library during open hours. The entrance to the law library is located on the second floor of the Law Building.

    Study Rooms

    Study rooms in the Law Library are reserved only for Sturm College of Law students, faculty, and staff. Groups who are not affiliated with the Sturm College of Law may not use these rooms.

    The Law Library contains five study rooms (330U, 330T, 330S, 330R, 330Q) that are located along the north side of the 3rd floor, including four 4-person study rooms and one 10-person room. Students may reserve a study room in the Law Library or throughout the law school using thereservation system. Before making a reservation, please review the Study Room Guidelines that govern the usage of all study rooms in the Sturm College of Law, including those located in the Law Library.

  • Exams

    Past Exams

    Some DU Law Professors make a selection of their past exams available for download. DU Law Students can access past exams using their Pioneer Number and Password.

    AAP Office

    In addition to the resources available in the Westminster Law Library, the Academic Achievement Program (AAP) provides tutoring and study aids to students for both doctrinal classes and the bar examination. It is located in Room 457 of the law school.

    Study Aids

    The Westminster Law Library maintains a collection of popular study aids for doctrinal law school courses. The study aid collection is located on the 2nd floor of the law library facing the common study area. These materials are available for check out for 24 hour renewable periods. Electronic copies may also be accessed via the LexisNexis Digital Library.

  • Course Reserves

    Reserve Collection

    The library maintains a permanent core collection of reserve materials behind the circulation desk at Westminster. Additional materials are placed in this area each semester as requested by law faculty for courses. If you are unable to locate material you think should be on reserve, please check with a circulation staff member. Course Reserves can be located using the Course Reserve Searchin our discovery platform.

    Reserve Borrowing

    Generally, reserve materials marked Library Use Only or Non-Circulating must be used within the library. Reserve materials may be borrowed for two hours.

    Overdue Reserve Items

    Law students who have overdue reserve material will receive an email and/or phone call from library staff requesting the immediate return of the material. All other borrowing is suspended until overdue reserve materials are returned.

    1. Go to the library discovery system
    2. Click on Course Reserves
    3. Enter Professor's name into the search field

  • Research Help

    The Westminster Law Library is committed to helping students excel in legal research.

    Ways to get research

    In addition to your Westlaw and Lexis accounts, the Westminster Law Library maintains subscriptions to over 500 other databases and journals. These materials can be accessed electronically using your DU Student ID and password. See our A-Z list of databasesfor a description of each resource.

    How to Make an Appointment

    The reference librarians at Westminster Law Library are happy to help you in your research. Whether you have a brief question or would like individual consultations or training, you can reach usvia chat, phone, email, or in-person at the reference desk.

    Research Guides & Tutorials

    The librarians at Westminster Law Library have prepared research guides for how to locate, evaluate, and utilize resources for specific legal subjects. Research Guidesare arranged alphabetically by subject.

  • Training Programs

    Request Training

    Our reference librarians are happy to provide individual or group training sessions if there is a particular resource, tool, or research subject area for which you would like specific instruction. To schedule training, contact the Reference Department athelp@law-du.libanswers.com.

    Certificate in Legal Research

    The Certificate in Legal Research (CLR) program, taught by the librarians here at the Sturm College of Law, provides students with the research skills necessary for success in class, internships, externships, summer associate positions, or for your first position as a new attorney. The certificates are a great resume builder and topic of discussion during the interview process.

    Classes are open to any DU Law student interested in improving research and practice-oriented skills. Topics cover a wide range of areas and provide an excellent grounding as you begin to combine the knowledge gained in school with the actual practice of law. Students are free to attend as few or as many classes as desired and are under no obligation to complete the requirements for a certificate.

    Bootcamp

    The Westminster Law Library provides a series of sessions on typical research projects and skills needed for summer placements. The Bootcamp consists of six sessions taught over two weeks, typically in June. Registration is free for current law students.   • Using the Library

    The Law Library is open to students, faculty, and staff of the College of Law. All patrons must comply with Library policies.

    Printing, Copying

    Printing at the Law School is provided by Wēpa, a third-party vendor. Wēpa provides cloud-based campus-wide student printing. Services include:

    • Printing from your laptop, a library computer, or a USB drive
    • Printing from your cloud-based storage (Google Drive, Box, DropBox, Office 365, or OneDrive)
    • Upload and print through the Wēpa website and mobile app.

    For instructions on how to use the Wēpa printers, please visit the Wēpa Public Printerspage.

    The Wēpa printers, including the color printer, are located on the second floor next to the elevator. On the third floor of the library, the printers are located in the copy rooms in the northeast corner of the library. If you have questions regarding the printers, please visit the circulation desk.

    ILL
