Powerful Explosions and Smoke Witnessed in the Heart of Tehran
According to eyewitness accounts, two powerful explosions were audible in the city on Saturday morning. Simultaneously, two plumes of dense smoke were observed billowing over central and eastern districts of the city.
“The type of these blasts indicates that this is a missile attack,” one news agency reported, though it did not immediately offer further details.
Context: Rising Tensions and Recent Events
This event takes place against a background of severely escalated strains in the Middle East. Major developments leading up to this attack involve:
- US Military Buildup: A massive build-up of American warships in the Middle East, featuring the repositioning of carrier strike groups.
- Nuclear Talks: Latest discussions between the US and Iranian officials on Tehran's atomic program ended inconclusively, with suggestions of further talks planned.
- Public Statements: Before the attack, a prominent American figure had labeled Iran as “the world’s number one sponsor of terror” and delivered threats regarding its weapons development.
- Ultimatum: Reportedly, a time limit of roughly two weeks had been presented to Iran to resolve the nuclear dispute or confront severe consequences.
Reaction from Tehran
Reacting to prior accusations, Iranian authorities had accused the United States of spreading “falsehoods” about its defensive capabilities. They dismissed claims about weapons development and protest deaths as baseless.
